We have chosen to display 2 graphs corresponding to 2 time scales. One for a period of 7 days and another one for a period of 6 months.
Note that a graph may be not displayed if not enough data has been collected for a while.
Statistics are based on an official twitter public stream. All tweets are parsed in order to extract used hashtags, words, users, location and source. These informations will increment their corresponding counters every minutes. Then, these counters are summarized every hour, day, week, month and year. It is important to note that we are NOT parsing ALL the tweets but only a fraction (about 1% of the overall traffic).
Hashtag : Hashtags are mostly used as unmoderated ad-hoc discussion forums; any combination of characters led by a hash sign is a hashtag, and any hashtag, if promoted by enough individuals, can "trend" and attract more individual users to discussion using the hashtag. On Twitter, when a hashtag becomes extremely popular, it will appear in the "Trending Topics" area of a user's homepage. Hashtags are neither registered nor controlled by any one user or group of users, and neither can they be "retired" from public usage, meaning that hashtags can be used in theoretical perpetuity depending upon the longevity of the word or set of characters in a written language.
Word : Statweestics.com not only takes care of hashtags, but also any words from a tweet. The only restriction : they must have at least 3 characters
User : Statweestics.com tracks only users that appear into a tweet, and not the users that emit a tweet. It is a way to capture the most popular users.
Location : This corresponds to the location set by the user into its profile. As the location can be freely chosen, it could be a country, a state, a town or even an abbreviation.
Source : This corresponds to the Web site, desktop program or mobile application that emit the tweet.
